IPS26: Using existing data from new data sources for official statistics production

We are thrilled to invite everyone interested to the Invited Paper Session no 26 “Using existing data from new data sources for official statistics production” that GOPA Luxembourg will organise within the IAOS 2022 Conference (26-28 April 2022 Kraków, Poland) under the auspices of Managerial Director Dr. Stephan Krische. In this IPS26 and session conference 44, there will be a presentation of some case studies of projects in which multiple data sources have been used, aiming to outline the benefits and identify challenges of their use for official statistics production. Experts from GOPA LuxembourgThe National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies Luxembourg (STATEC), and General Lao Statistics Bureau will present the following papers:

  • Administrative statistical data on crime statistics
  • Challenges in the integration of multiple data sources in environmental-economic accounting in Lao PDR
  • The role of data integration in national accounts reengineering
  • The integration of administrative sources in the EU-SILC statistics: benefits and obstacles

Ms. Phonesaly Souksavath from General Lao Statistics Bureau will chair the session. No doubt that the participation into discussion session of Dr. Ronald Jansen from United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and Dr. Dominik Roskrut from Statistics Poland will make the strand more valuable and particularly interesting.

This monthly review gives a synthetic picture of the macroeconomic situation in the recent past. It is based on Principal European Economic Indicators (PEEIs), complemented by some business cycle indicators.

QUALITY OF LIFE IN EUROPEAN CITIES SURVEY

GOPA Worldwide consultants is glad to announce the successful finalisation of the project for Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG- REGIO) and Eurostat on Quality of Life in European Cities Survey.

The objective of the contract was to review the current methodology used to perform the Quality of Life in European Cities survey, wave 2019.

More specifically the scope of the project included the following issues:

  • Reviewing the current interviewing mode (CATI)
  • Reviewing the current sampling methodology
  • Reviewing the current questionnaire

The results of the revision of the 2019 implementation of the QLEC survey will be introduced in a paper form entitled ‘Improving data collection for the Quality of Life in European Cities Survey — sampling method, interviewing methodology, and structure of the questionnaire’. The findings of the revision are accompanied with recommendations for improvements to be made in the coming survey wave.

Eurostat will publish this paper in the near future.

The contract took place within the Eurostat’s Framework Contract on Methodology, through which GOPA is providing methodological and research support to Eurostat and other European Commission DGs, for the development and modernisation of European statistics. The project has been implemented by GOPA Luxembourg.

Progress on SBS Manual

GOPA experts presented the draft version 2.0 of the Structural Business Statistics (SBS) Manual to the Members of Eurostat’s SBS/BD WG (held 7-8 June 2021). The Working Group welcomed the draft SBS Manual.

Currently, the draft version 3.0 is submitted for written consultation to the SBS/BD WG. The final approval by Eurostat and the Member States is expected in September 2021; and the SBS Manual will be published later this year.

The SBS Manual will be a valuable addition to the already existing, overarching European Business Statistics Manual and the European business statistics methodological manual for statistical business registers – 2021 edition.

SUPPORT TO THE EUROPEAN STABILITY MECHANISM

GOPA Luxembourg continues its involvement in macroeconomic analysis and forecasting. We are glad to  announce the award of a three-year Framework Contract with the possibility of a one-year extension, for the provision of consultancy services to support the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) in the implementation of projects in the area of banking and economic services.

The focus of the projects will be on macro-economic and financial risk assessment and evaluation of financial assistance programs as well as on macro-economic and financial sector data analysis and systems. Our internal experts, together with our network of affiliated experts from academia, industry, and government, will offer our clients exceptional breadth and depth of expertise in economics and finance.

New contract signed with MEGA Luxembourg on Gender Equality

We are happy to announce that GOPA Luxembourg has signed a new contract with the Ministry of Gender Equality of Luxembourg (MEGA) and the start of the second phase of the project for the creation of an Observatory of Equality between Women and Men.

The scope of the project is the creation, external management and updating of a database of statistics and indicators aiming to describe the role of women and men in the society, economy and family. It is focused on seven domains: Domestic Violence, Employment, Decision-making, Work/life balance, Education, Income, and Health.

After the successful implementation of the first phase of the project, which focused on the domains of the domestic violence and employment, GOPA Luxembourg is glad to offer its expertise for two other domains, namely “decision making” and “work/life balance”.

The results of the project will be available in the end of 2021 and will be incorporated in the Observatory of Equality between Women and Men. This website, dedicated to statistics on women and men in Luxembourg, was created under GOPA Luxembourg’s expertise and is particularly useful to non-expert statistical users.
