New contract signed with MEGA Luxembourg on Gender Equality

We are happy to announce that GOPA Luxembourg has signed a new contract with the Ministry of Gender Equality of Luxembourg (MEGA) and the start of the second phase of the project for the creation of an Observatory of Equality between Women and Men.

The scope of the project is the creation, external management and updating of a database of statistics and indicators aiming to describe the role of women and men in the society, economy and family. It is focused on seven domains: Domestic Violence, Employment, Decision-making, Work/life balance, Education, Income, and Health.

After the successful implementation of the first phase of the project, which focused on the domains of the domestic violence and employment, GOPA Luxembourg is glad to offer its expertise for two other domains, namely “decision making” and “work/life balance”.

The results of the project will be available in the end of 2021 and will be incorporated in the Observatory of Equality between Women and Men. This website, dedicated to statistics on women and men in Luxembourg, was created under GOPA Luxembourg’s expertise and is particularly useful to non-expert statistical users.

The project will contribute to the development of Web Intelligence Hub and the Trusted Smart Statistics framework of Eurostat. The results of the project will be available in the first quarter of 2021.

GOPA Luxembourg supports the European Commission to monitor economic performance of EU countries

GOPA Luxembourg supports the European Commission, and in particular the Eurostat’s unit National accounts methodology, to monitor economic and monetary performance of the EU  for the next 4 years via the Principal European Economic Indicators (PEEIs): Foreign direct investments, GDP, turnover in services, unemployment, labour cost, inflation rate, interest rates, house prices, etc.. Those are non-exhaustive examples of highly valuable information for decision makers (at national, regional, supra-national levels), investors, journalists, researchers and, to a larger extent, all citizens.

GOPA Luxembourg mobilizes its expertise to ensure the regular updates of econometric analyses, data, tables and graphs based on PEEIs. In addition, we will produce the monthly Eurostatistics publication to strengthen the dissemination of the PEEIs.

COMUNIKOS project: conclusions of the Working Group on Methodology

COMmunicating UNcertainty In Key Official Statistics (COMUNIKOS) was presented at the 4th Meeting of the Working Group on Methodology, held in Luxembourg on 8 April 2019: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/cros/content/4th-meeting-08-april-2019-luxembourg_en.

The Working Group welcomes the initiative, in particular its focus on communication aspects and the way the social media (https://twitter.com/comunikos) and LinkedIn will be used to disseminate the results. The group took note of the state of play of the project and emphasised its orientation towards new sources, the visualisation techniques and communicating the uncertainties of the final output.

COMUNIKOS is an Eurostat research initiative, implemented with the support of GOPA, aiming to conduct a review of the current practices in measuring and communicating uncertainty of disseminated data, and to study the latest developments in the field and their applicability to official statistics. The expected results include enhanced recommendations to tackle the misinterpretation, due to errors or uncertainties, of the information the statistics reveal. All related project documents are available at Eurostat Collaboration in Research and Methodology for Official Statistics (CROS portal).
